Our Service to You

We offer an unconditional guarantee of every item’s authenticity and completeness as described. We collate all our books and note any defects in our published descriptions.

Any item can be returned for a full refund if found unsatisfactory for any reason, if we are notified within 14 days. Refunds are limited to the original purchase price, including initial delivery costs.

All shipped items are expertly packed and fully insured.

We are members in good standing of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association (ABA) of Great Britain, and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB). We observe the highest professional and ethical standards, and abide by the ABA Code of Good Practice.

There is no additional sales tax to be paid. Printed books and maps are zero-rated for VAT. Our prices for prints include VAT, which is refundable for sales outside the EC. Our VAT registration number is GB 701 5578 50.

Libraries and institutions may arrange deferred billing on request. All items remain the property of Peter Harrington until payment is made in full.

Deliveries & Policies

With the exception of framed items*, Peter Harrington offers free delivery on all orders over £200 of rare books, maps, and prints placed through this website.

Delivery times overseas are approximately 5–10 working days. Delivered items are expertly packed by us and fully insured. Our deliveries require a signature on delivery.

*Please contact us directly on gallery@peterharrington.co.uk for specific costings where framed items are concerned, as they will differ from item to item.

Urgent Deliveries

We offer courier delivery worldwide for a flat fee of £50. Delivery times are 1–2 business days to New York/New Jersey and Europe; 2–3 business days to the rest of the USA; and 2–5 days for the rest of the world. We use UPS for our courier deliveries, but Delivery by FedEx service is also available; contact us if you would prefer us to use the latter. Please note that neither UPS nor FedEx will deliver to PO box addresses.

Delivery address:
As all our books are unique and high value items, our credit card supplier requires us to deliver all internet orders to the billing address of the card.

In certain circumstances, we may be able to arrange delivery to a more convenient address, such as a work address. Circumstances include:

• Existing customers well known to us • Customers using an American Express card with an alternative delivery address on file with their card issuer
• Professionals able to offer confirmation of their work address

If you are paying by credit card and your circumstances differ from these, please contact us to discuss further options.

For cleared funds by wire transfer or bank cheque, we can deliver to any convenient address.

Refund Information

In the event of a refund, where possible the value of the book at time of purchase will be refunded to the same credit or debit card account used to make the initial payment. If the customer paid in cash and is unable to visit either of the bookshops in London, suitable arrangements will be made to the convenience of the customer.

Upon receipt of the returned item(s), Peter Harrington will immediately make arrangements to process the refund. This should take between three and five working days to clear.

The item(s) should be returned to Peter Harrington in the exact state that they were initially delivered. Peter Harrington will cover the cost of the return of any items that have arrived not as described on our website. For all other items, the customer is expected to deliver the book back to us at their own expense.

Promotions & Voucher Codes

Promotional voucher codes are from time to time offered as part of newsletter sign-ups, social sign-ups, prizes or alternatives to prizes. These may not be used in conjunction with each other – only one code can be applied to any one basket transaction – and cannot be used to apply further discount to already discounted items.

• To redeem a promotion, insert the code in the “Apply discount code” box on the shopping bag page of the site. If valid, the code will be applied
• Only one code can be used per order and each code is valid for use one time only
• Discount codes are only valid for use with full price items - sale items are not eligible
• Codes cannot be used for Chelsea Bindery services
