Peter Harrington is a member of the Antiquarian Books Association. The ABA is the senior trade body for dealers in antiquarian and rare books, manuscripts and allied materials in the British Isles. Members are elected on the basis of proven experience, expertise and integrity. They are expected to observe the highest professional and ethical standards and to foster the mutual trust and respect that exists between the trade and the public. The display of the Association’s badge pledges members to:-
● the authenticity of all material offered for sale
● the expert and proper description of all such material
● the disclosure of all significant defects or restorations
● the clear, accurate and professional pricing of all material
● the fairness and honesty of offers to purchase
Peter Harrington is a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB), a network of rare booksellers in 37 countries, which aims to uphold and advance technical and ethical standards, to encourage international trade, and to contribute to a broader appreciation of the history and art of the book. Affiliated booksellers worldwide adhere to ILAB’s strict Code of Usages and Customs requiring books and related material to be accurately and professionally described and to guarantee the authenticity and genuineness of all material for sale.
Peter Harrington is a member of the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (PBFA), attending fairs around the country. PBFA members are expected to adhere to a code of practice which includes ensuring that that all transactions are conducted to high professional standards and that all book descriptions are complete, accurate and clearly state any faults.
Peter Harrington is a member of LAPADA, the Association of Art & Antiques Dealers. LAPADA is the largest association of professional art and antiques dealers in the United Kingdom. Membership is only open to those who meet the Association’s requirements as to experience, quality of stock and knowledge of their subject. All members agree to abide by a strict Code of Practice and in the unlikely event of a dispute, the Association offers a free Conciliation Service. In addition to the protection afforded by the Code of Practice, all art and antiques dealers (unlike auctioneers whose Conditions of Sale protect them) must comply with consumer protection laws. The LAPADA Code of Practice also ensures that all items for sale in a member’s shop or at a fair must be clearly and correctly labelled including the price.
